How to Practice SomaVeda Integrated Traditional Therapies® Thai Yoga  Under Corona Concerns

We have been receiving many queries from SomaVeda® Thai Yoga graduates and practitioners regarding how to practice or even whether they should practice at all during the Covid-19 pandemic situation. Some practitioners are located in states with “Lock Downs” and “Stay at Home Orders” and “Social Distancing” to one degree or another from quite harsh to little or no! There is no uniform strategy or solution being applied nationally. This is further complicated by local jurisdictions interpreting the “recommendations” of elected officials. In most states Massage Therapy as an industry has either been completely shut down or severely restricted, only being considered “essential” if a Licensed MD prescribes it for example… How often does that happen even in the best of times? My understanding is rarely if ever. Who can make a living like this? More than this who can help using their skills to heal their community like this?

So what are you to do as a practitioner?

Well if your a smart and prepared practitioner you have been working under your NAIC Legal umbrella as an NAIC AFM Authorized Minister Practitioner. Because we who practice under NAIC are legal to offer our services and minister to our members! Yes, even under “shutdown” orders. Why is this? several reasons… I won’t do the whole “Legal Guidelines ” lecture here as it is located in class, in “The Book” and in other “Legal” articles I have posted here… but I will say it simply because of A) Somaveda® Thai Yoga is NOT legally defined as “Massage” and or “Massage Therapy” unless you call it so, and or market it as such on a personal basis (Shame of you!). and B) Under NAIC Tribal Org. It is a Religious Therapeutic Ministry and Sacradotal Duty of NAIC as a healing ministry. As a “Religious Practice” it is exempted overtly from most legal restrictions… Even where there have been unconstitutional (illegal- unenforceable) restrictions on religious practices they still allow “Social Distancing” and “Safe Practices”.

First a reminder here! The primary outcomes of SomaVeda® Thai Yoga are PromiiWihanSii or the four divine states of mind! Do you have to physically touch or be present with an individual to show, to practice or to do this? No! This means you can practice at a distance, by phone, by video or in person but with a short separation between you!

There is currently no cure for Corona and there won’t be one anytime soon. Eventually everyone is going to catch it and go through it however, they do. The most important strategy is not to try to avoid it, but to ensure that everyone who either has already been exposed or is going to be exposed (everyone) is as healthy in every way possible right now and if possible before they are infected.

This relates to “co-morbidity” i.e. the underlying, and or pre-existing medical and health conditions which complicate and exacerbate the progress and mortality possibility of Covid infections such as Diabetes, Heart Disease and Cancer, Immune Disorders or Syndromes, other unknown or “Sub-clinical” infections, Vaccine Injuries, Malnutrition, Toxicities and Deficiencies, chronic inflammatory conditions etc. From the basic certification you have the information to use for counseling on these issues!

Other established co-morbidities are STRESS! Depressions, Anxieties, Fears, Phobias, Rage and irrational anger, Addictions either alcohol, drugs or both! People are suicidal from despair and who is counseling them? You know the fundamentals of Energy Psychology i.e. BET/ EFT/ Tapping, a proven therapy you are legally authorized to do. If you did nothing but market and practice coaching and counseling people to Tapp on their emotional, mental issues you would be a God send.

Do everything, offer everything and find what your community wants and needs from you!

Under NAIC as an Authorized Full Blessed Member you are legal and able to do programs and sessions for your patients and clients using everything you have been given access to in your training and certification for Ministry. Yes that includes “hands-On”. But, no matter how you define or redefine your practice let it be a SomaVeda® practice. What I mean by that is a WHOLISTIC practice. I implore you to not define your practice as a “massage” , “Bodywork” or “rubbing on people for money” practice. A) That is NOT what SomaVeda® is. B) It is NOT what you were trained and or certified in. C)It is a misrepresentation of the Sacred art and entirely self limiting both for you and your clients.

Bottom line? If your not practicing under NAIC your on your own! Sorry, Best of luck to you negotiating the current shifting legal and health sands. If your an NAIC Authorized practitioner of any level then your legal to practice if you follow strictly all of the legal guidelines! I said IF. If you do not follow ALL of the guidelines you are simply not protected. This means every client, every single one has to be an NAIC Member… No exceptions. If legal protection was ever important it is doubly so now under the current conditions. If your not clear… go to the “Legal Guidelines” course at LearnThaiYoga and review the published materials.

Additional Suggestions:

* Keeping in mind your legal Exceptions for religious practice. Be sure to practice legally, and within all national and local laws and guidelines.
* Change your rules and regulations to comply with the law, and to be safe at all times. Make sure that all clients are NAIC Members and fill out both NAIC APM Membership and Informed Consent forms to follow your new guidelines.
* Consider taking the temperature of every client before they enter your practice room. Require clients to wash before entering the room and to wear a mask at all times. The therapist should also do the same.
* Change the way you perform SomaVeda® Thai Yoga. Avoid close contact with the client’s face or breath, and keep your face at a safe distance.
* Consider using your feet and SomaVeda® T.A.E.L.R. (Tool Assisted Energy Line Release), instead of your hands. Consider working most of the session in side position, to maintain more distance between therapist and client, and to keep faces pointing away from each other.

* To what degree it is feasible, ensure plenty of fresh air and sunlight in the treatment area. Consider moving your mat, table or chair outdoors! Fresh air is good for many reasons.

* Make plenty of Colloidal Silver! Spray everything before and after, let “airdry” as a disinfectant.Do the same for your mask, gloves, face! Spray your mat. Hi everyone and good day! Yes, almost everyone (those paying attention) is concerned with the Covid-19 pandemic now consuming the air waves of every news channel! And rightly so!  How is this all going to pan out? For most it is a bit uncertain in the short term. For the long, well, it’s going to work out! How do I know this? It always has and always does! This is not the first pandemic of epic proportions and risk to all nor will it be the last.

When we look at the functional, indigenous traditional medicine histories of the past we know that Ayurveda, Traditional Chinese Medicine and Native American Medicine as well as Homeopathy and Nature Cure (i.e. Traditional Naturopathy), especially as found in the Christian Monastic Medicine traditions of the Hospitaller’s (Founder of the Modern “Hospital” concept and “Nursing” weathered in some cases MANY pandemics.

The knowledge and understanding of the basic principles of surviving epidemics has not changed, not been lost just because the “times” have changed. Yes, we do have modern medicine and “medical respirators”, although we have a shortage of individuals who know how to operate these high tech life saving devices.

Disclaimer: This is a theoretical article and opinion about how far can Ayurveda be useful in preventing, reducing and/ or treating the symptoms of Coronovirus. We are not claiming to prevent or to cure it. Do not follow any advice given in the article (or any part of our website) without consulting your doctor. We have not cured any patients of Coronavirus with the treatments discussed below, neither do we claim that these treatment ideas cure it or prevent. Consider it as a mere conceptual article and our learned opinion.

SomaVeda® Thai Yoga and Ayurveda Solutions for Corona Issues

Please note the following recommendations are in addition to the really good overall advise and NAIC Monastic Medical Recommendation’s guidelines as well as legal edicts as per governmental authorities. All health and medical recommendation’s on an individual level must follow your personal physicians recommendations.

So… best bet for most people is to:

A) Reduce your exposure! This concept of physically limiting your direct risk of infection by creating and maintaining physical space (6 to 10ft.) from vectors (source of infection/ carriers) whether directly known or unknown… i.e. Social (Physical) distancing to a reasonable degree, is valid and useful in the small and the big picture of slowing down exposure rates in the general population. However, I say within reason for a reason. Our entire lives are built on and based on socialization and social interaction… It is simply not possible for the greater population to sequester and isolate. Income level, access to deliveries… especially a condition for rural and or remote areas! No “Grub Hub” or “Uber Eats” in these areas. Maybe your a “Prepper” maybe not. But all of us need to be somewhat on the “prepper” train right now  and for some unforeseeable future. No matter what your up to reduce your social activities to those activities which support health and self sufficiency as best you can. Many “essential” infrastructure persons from health providers to first responders will have the same issues as most of us while being required to get out there in high risk environments… no choice. My advise to these persons is do what you can aside from your job responsibilities to take care of your self and your family! You now have multiple jobs in that you have a public responsibility and still need to take care of your own households.

  1. Avoid total isolation: While we need to exercise caution in regard to large gatherings and social interactions, our health can suffer if we isolate ourselves completely. Social isolation disrupts the functioning of the vagus nerve—the brain-gut connection that regulates our immune system and our response to stress. Try to maintain a sense of social connectedness by engaging in small and safe social gatherings, eating meals with your family or a few friends, and avoiding over-reliance on electronic socialization. Above all, stay calm and open hearted while observing these commonsense precautions:

    • Avoid close contact with people who are sick.

    • Wash your hands frequently.

    • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth.

    • Stay home when you are sick.

    • Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue; then throw the tissue in the trash.

    • Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces using soap and water or household cleanser.

    • Keep bundled up and warm during cold weather.

B) Be healthy… If your not? Ask yourself “Why am I not healthy?” if the answer is anything that has been in your power and means to correct… get on it! Every health expert including myself will tell you that your baseline of health and wellness will be a contributing factor in both your personal susceptibility and if and when exposed (and you will be), you experience as virulence, degree of illness and risk of death. We here at the SomaVeda College of Natural Medicine and Thai Yoga Center have been teaching all of these concepts for years! Those of you who are graduates from our programs and especially my classes have heard me tirelessly and repetitively tell to to get your personal health in order.

Do the medicine you have been taught. Use the resources you have been given to get healthy i.e. “Physician, Heal Thy Self” as both a pre-condition and as a formal condition towards healing others. Those of you who have followed the teachings are now in excellent shape to deal with the current crises… those of you who followed lackadaisically or didn’t think it was important enough to double down and master the ancient and modern medicine teaching given are now in the same boat as everyone else, those who did not have education, those who don’t have a clue!

You may not like this! I want to say that those graduates  and or former students who exclusively have chosen to re-define our SomaVeda Indigenous Traditional Medicine® Thai Yoga as exclusively “Bodywork” and or “Massage” are just now wishing you had paid more attention to the parts of the program dealing with immune system, nutrition, supplementation, detoxification and counseling… You know who you are! However, all is forgiven. Break out your notebooks, text and course materials and dig deep into your notes for solutions you can do right now and which you can use as a basis for counseling! Now is the time to build and redirect into the counseling services your qualified and authorized to do which do not require physical contact and or even being in the same room! You can counsel by phone appointment, “Skype”, FB Live, “Insta” Live, Twitter or whatever format works best for your communications with your clients.

For example, it is proven clinically and scientifically that improving your emotional/ mental health has an immediate and direct impact of your immune system function and overall health and wellbeing. We have an amazing technology called B.E.T./ EFT and or “Energy Psychology” which EVERY SomaVeda® Thai Yoga Certified Practitioner at EVERY practice level is required to learn and know! Now is the time to put that training and secondary certification/ scope of practice to use. Who does not need professional counseling on their negative and old unresolved negative emotional issues, fears, phobia, anxiety issues right now? Those therapist who are paying attention are scheduling paid professional consultation by phone and on-line. If your not… ask your self “Why not?”

A big part of what it means to be able to help bring healing to others is to “Work on Your Self”. Use the “Tapping” to build your own stability and remove confusion and irrational fear to better enable your own clarity to make better decisions during difficult times. Yes physical distance can be helpful… however, do not isolate yourself from your own healing practices and certainly do not be one of those “Healers” who in a crises disappears or is other wise “Not Available”. If your a trained healer, minister or Practitioner Therapist now is the time to prove your metal. Put up or shut up. Help or admit defeat to your lack of discipline and either immediately start supporting those who can do the work or get out of the way. If these words seem strong or critical, then so be it. This current time and pandemic is EXACTLY what we have been training for. This is why true healers, practicing authentic, genuine medicine have been training for. I hope with all my heart that you, my current and former students choose to step up and not out!

I want to recommend for the “Self Work” part of the equation right now my book “Angels Speak, The Art and Work of Crafting Consciousness“. Take some of the “Free Time” you now have because you may not be able to “rub on people” for money and continue to educate yourself on how to work on yourself in such a way as to reconnect to being able to contribute in difficult times.

IMPORTANT ALERT: If you are, and or define your professional livelihood as a “Massage” person my heart goes out to you as the massage industry is experiencing a huge crash which is likely to continue for the future. Non-medical, non-essential touching for esthetics, relaxation and or “therapy” may even be banned by the government in the near future.

Health officials recommend relying on good judgment and “social distancing” to keep ourselves safe. Eat three nourishing meals a day. Breakfast should be warm and easy to digest, lunch should be your largest meal of the day, and dinner should consist of a light, warm, and easily assimilated dish, such as a soup, or lightly steamed veggies and rice. Stay away from processed foods, sugars, and heavy, oily foods. Dairy foods can also be problematic due to their mucus-forming properties.

  2. Consume a small amount of Trikatu daily before lunch: Trikatu is a Sanskrit word meaning “three spices” or “three peppers.” Trikatu is an Ayurvedic blend of equal parts of the fruits of black pepper (Piper nigrum), long pepper (Piper longum), and the rhizomes of ginger (Zingiber officinale).   • Kashaya, Madhura – astringent and sweet
  • As per Charaka, it is one of those ingredients, that can be taken on a daily basis. (Pathya). (Reference: Charaka Samhita Sutrasthana 5/12 )
  • Drink warm freshly boiled water with Cinnamon, Clove, Cardamom, Ginger, Black Pepper, and Star Anise. These spices improve digestion and are antimicrobial.Fresh Tumeric roots
  • Add fresh Turmeric to your soups or prepare fresh Turmeric Pickle with each meal. Turmeric apart from its anti-inflammation properties is also very good at improving our digestion.
  • Chyavanaprasam (is a good source of C vitamin) – useful for deficient immune disorders, respiratory ailments (also useful in debilitating diseases where the immunity goes down drastically).
    Those who cannot take ghee/sugar of Chyavanaprasam may take Tiktakam Kwatham morning and evening. It is an ancient Ayurvedic herbal supplement tablet that is robustly anti-viral.
  • Agastya Rasayana (Leham) – useful for general debility, respiratory ailments including bronchial asthma, hiccup, cough

This beautiful Thai Yoga Table Massage was first demonstrated by Dr. Anthony James nationally in the US in 1991 at the AOBTA (American Oriental Bodywork Therapy Association) National conference in New Orleans.

Unlike using the Thai Yoga Massage Mats or futon style mat, this work is appropriate for the work place, corporate and/ or industrial settings as well as conventional yoga therapy, Ayurveda treatment and Massage Therapy venues.

SomaVeda® Thai Yoga Table Massage incorporates virtually every conceivable Seated Thai Yoga Massage and Yoga Therapy technique, Asana and Vinyasana. Learn how to do all the primary Thai Massage flows, using the Massage Therapy table for advantage and leverage. Thai Yoga Table reduces and or eliminates repetitive stress resulting from common massage practice.

This is very similar work to that practiced in virtually all of the 160 plus Veterans Hospitals in Thailand. We also incorporate methods given to us by Grand Master Anantasuk of the Anantasuk Thai Massage school famous for their programs at the Wiangklaikangwan Industrial college under patronage of the Thai King and Royal family. Dr. Anthony B. James is a recognized Aachan in the Anantasuk school and Wat Po Association of Thai Traditional Medical Schools. Dr. James is also a Thai UTTS (Union of Thai Traditional Medicine Society) Lifetime Licensed Traditional Thai Doctor!
