Raw Food Risks and Solutions!

By Anthony B. James

Dr. Anthony B. James, Monastic Medical Physician

Virtually every class we hold at ACNM (American College of Natural Medicine) has one or more “Raw Foodists,” and this appears to be a growing trend. However, in conversation with them, there appears to be a lack of knowledge and uninformed prejudice regarding the risks of eating an exclusively raw food diet and the actual necessity and benefit of cooking and/or processing some foods.

Here at the ACNM and the Thai Yoga Center, we teach nutrition and healthy eating based on traditional principles. We stress the value of a predominantly plant-based diet in the most unadulterated state possible to support safe and dense nutrition.

As SomaVeda® Thai Yoga practitioners, nutrition advocacy is one of our most powerful and reliable adjuncts. However, there is no scientific or traditional support for the idea that eating raw food exclusively is healthy. Our ancient Native American culture consumed a varied and primarily plant-based diet consisting of both raw and cooked foods. Yet, there are definite and very clear health risks associated with the consumption of some raw foods.

Fact sheet No. 9.369, published by the Colorado State University Extension sites research, specifically addresses the prevalence and risk of E. coli in raw vegetables. “Fresh fruits and vegetables once were thought to be relatively free of disease-producing pathogens. In recent years, however, outbreaks of foodborne illness linked to fruits and vegetables have become more common.

These outbreaks come from produce grown both in the United States and in other countries. Outbreaks have been linked to Escherichia coli O157:H7 and Salmonella on apples, lettuce, cantaloupe, and sprouts; Listeria monocytogenes on cabbage and cantaloupe; Shigella on parsley and lettuce; and Cyclospora on imported raspberries.”

“Root crops and leafy vegetables have the greatest risk of infection from manure application to soil. They can also become contaminated through direct or indirect contact with cattle, deer, and sheep. E. coli O157:H7 is most prevalent in ruminants in general and in cattle in particular (both beef and dairy). Other known carriers include birds, insects, and squirrels.

While the bacteria do not appear to make these animals sick, the animals carry and shed the bacteria in their feces. Drinking and recreational water have been carriers in several outbreaks, most likely from fecal contamination by infected animals or people.”

Truth is, we have no way to verify from garden to table that there has been no vector of contamination somewhere along the line.

These bacterial and fungal contaminants can produce life-threatening illness especially in persons with lowed or challenged immune systems. For specific details, read the full report at (http://www.ext.colostate.edu/pubs/foodnut/09369.html)

What about my favorite Super Raw Foods, such as Raw Cacao?

I love chocolate as much as the next person. I helped build a Cacao farm in Ecuador a few years ago (see photo) and was convinced of the benefits of raw chocolate.

However, recent studies and revelations have come to mind to discourage me from other than the occasional use of raw, uncooked chocolate. Sad, I know, but I want to be healthy, and I want my clients to be healthy. The main issue with unprocessed or raw chocolate is pathogenic Mycotoxins such as Aflatoxin and Ochratoxin A, which can cause the following effects: Neurotoxic (destroys nervous tissue), Immunosuppressive (suppresses immune function), Genotoxic (causes genetic mutations), Carcinogenic (cancer-causing), Teratogenic (causes birth defects).

Dr. Anthony James in Ecuador at the SMOKH Loma Linda Cacao Farm.

One study makes the following points:

  • “The occurrence of aflatoxins and ochratoxin A in chocolate was investigated.”
  • “Ochratoxin A was present in 98% of the evaluated chocolate samples.”
  • “Aflatoxins co-occurred in 80% of the samples contaminated with ochratoxin A.”
  • “Tendency of higher amounts of mycotoxins as higher is the cocoa solids content.”

This strongly suggests that safer chocolate is roasted chocolate!

What does the CDC say about Foodborne Illness?

Apparently, quite a lot!

“We estimate that foodborne diseases cause approximately 76 million illnesses, 325,000 hospitalizations, and 5,000 deaths in the United States each year.”  (Mead PS, Slutsker L, Dietz V, McCaig LF, Bresee JS, Shapiro C, et al. Food-Related Illness and Death in the United States. Emerg Infect Dis [serial on the Internet]. 1999, Oct [date cited]. Available from http://wwwnc.cdc.gov/eid/article/5/5/99-0502.htm)

According to CDC (Centers for Disease Control) references, to have a safer food experience:

CLEANhttp://www.cdc.gov/Other/disclaimer.html: Wash produce.

  • Rinse fresh fruits and vegetables in running tap water to remove visible dirt and grime.
  • Remove and discard the outermost leaves of a head of lettuce or cabbage.
  • Because bacteria can grow well on the cut surface of fruit or vegetables, be careful not to contaminate these foods while slicing them up on the cutting board, and avoid leaving cut produce at room temperature for many hours.
  • Don’t be a source of foodborne illness yourself.
  • Wash your hands with soap and water before preparing food.
  • Avoid preparing food for others if you yourself have a diarrheal illness.
  • Changing a baby’s diaper while preparing food is a bad idea that can easily spread illness.

(http://www.cdc.gov/foodsafety/facts.html – whatprotect)

Of course, I would also recommend avoiding consuming any foods that are inherently risky or likely candidates for contamination.

No food is automatically and exclusively safe from contamination!

According to The Partnership for Food Safety Education (http://www.fightbac.org/): “Despite progress improving the quality and safety of foods, the CAST report explains, “any raw agricultural product can be contaminated. Bacteria may survive despite aggressive controls at the processing level, or the food may become contaminated somewhere along the way during transport, preparation, cooking, serving, and storage.” (http://www.fightbac.org/about-foodborne-illness/challenges)

It has to do with the growing risk of Microbial and Mycological hazards. They cite the nonprofit Council for Agricultural Science and Technology (CAST), which has reported that zero risk of microbiological hazards is not possible and no method will eliminate all pathogens or toxins from the food chain (“Food Safety and Fresh Produce: An Update”, 2009).

What can I do to have a safer experience consuming vegetables and raw foods?

There are a few opinions but there is also within them a generally accepted standard for the safety of your veggies. The recommendations stated in the above-referenced reports are:

Food handling and preparation practices are the last line of defense for preventing infection from E. coli O157:H7 and other foodborne pathogens. The following actions can help ensure the safety of the food you serve. They are especially important if you or those you are serving are at risk for foodborne illness. The groups at highest risk include pregnant women and infants, children, the elderly, and immunocompromised individuals.

  • Wash hands thoroughly before working with food and after using the toilet, changing diapers, handling animals or helping people who have diarrhea.
  • Thoroughly wash raw fruits and vegetables just before preparing or eating them. This not only helps remove dirt, bacteria, and stubborn garden pests, but it also helps remove residual pesticides. Separate and individually rinse the leaves of spinach and lettuce. Peel potatoes, carrots, yams, and other root vegetables, or clean them well with a firm scrub brush under lukewarm running water. Pat dry with paper towels.
  • Clean and sanitize cutting boards, utensils, and surface areas used to prepare any raw food before using them to prepare another product, especially if that food will be eaten raw. Use 3/4 teaspoon of chlorine bleach per quart.
  • Avoid cross-contamination between raw and cooked foods. Store fresh meat below produce in the refrigerator. Never place cooked meat on an unwashed plate that holds raw meat.
  • Cook ground meats thoroughly to 160 degrees F. Check the internal temperature with a thermometer.
  • Don’t drink raw milk. Also, avoid unpasteurized juices or ciders.
  • Use only safe, treated water.
  • Refrigerate leftovers promptly.

Rinsing some produce, such as leafy greens, with a vinegar solution (1/2 cup distilled white vinegar per 2 cups water) followed by a clean water rinse has been shown to reduce bacterial contamination but may affect the taste.

Although bleach is recommended as a cleaning and disinfecting agent, I totally disagree with its use! Instead of chlorine bleach, which is disastrous for the environment and life on earth, I recommend using one or more of the following: Oxygenated Water, Colloidal Silver, or Vinegar. They are safe and do not cause contamination themselves!

I also don’t agree with the prohibition of Raw Milk and Dairy, provided that the origin is safe and reliable. Raw milk has been proven to have many health benefits over its pasteurized cousin. (http://www.realmilk.com/health/health-benefits-of-raw-milk-from-grass-fed-animals/)

Closing ideas on Raw Food Risks and Solutions!:

Be informed about your food choices and do the research on what you eat! No foods are inherently risk-free. This includes water. The best way to guarantee the quality of your food is to grow your own or cooperate with someone who does. Buy or use the freshest, cleanest, organic, local foods. Keep yourself and your preparation practices clean.

Always properly handle and clean your veggies or other foods properly and avoid cross-contamination issues. Rotate your diet to avoid toxic saturation, including allergens. Avoid eating Raw Chocolate in other than small amounts and on rare occasions!

Diseases that Thai and FIR Can Help

According to Dr. Sircus MD…”During the last decade, a silent revolution has been taking place in Japan in the fields of healing, preservation, cooking, drying and heating. It is the use and application of safe and efficient Far Infrared (FIR) Wave technology, replacing the potentially harmful micro wave technology.

The adaptive capacity of a cell ultimately determines its fate when it comes under stress. Far infrared treatments reduce the stress on the cells by not only nourishing them with light and heat but also by increasing nutritional sufficiency of oxygen and by increasing cellular respiration so more toxins and wastes leave the cells. More good things come in and bad things go out.”

Use of FIR Therapeutic devices is an important part of our light based  Photo-Bio-Modulation Therapeutic Protocols and sessions.

NAIC Donations & Deliverables

The donation for a Comprehensive AO Scan, Frequency Optimization, Vitals Analysis, and Inner Voice (emotional) Analysis is $150.

Targeted scans are available. Feel free to let us know where you need the most help. At least three scans are needed to properly assess issues and determine the degree of effectiveness for your body.  If the scans are effective for your condition, changes in symptoms are usually noticeable immediately after the first scan. The first scan with consultation takes about an hour, subsequent scans may take only 1/2 hour to 45 minutes.  Many notice improvement after just one scan.  Multiple scans are usually required to convince the body to adopt and begin creating these healthy frequencies on its own. More frequent scans at first are required when working to reset chronic issues.

Discounts for NAIC Members:

Seven Scan Protocol: NAIC Donation $945.00  (Each individual Scan, up to 1 hour)

20 Session Scan Protocol: for Chronic Conditions: Save 30% off regular session rate:  $2,400.00

(Please Note: We use PayPal, call for Appointment and Invoice. No scheduled appointment with out payment in advance.)

CORRECTING CHRONIC CONDITIONS

Dr. James knows all too well that reaching our optimum frequency can require more frequent scans when balancing parts of the body affected by chronic or “incurable conditions”. The human body can be recalibrated so we believe nothing is incurable.

Because the AO Analyzer has made such an impact on his own health, carpal tunnel, tendonitis, appendicitis, pain and spinal issues such as osteoporosis, NAIC: NWS and Dr. James gives you back 30% discount when you prepay for 20 scans. Dr. James became an AO Scan practitioner and teacher because the AO Scanner has given him an enhanced quality of life that he has been striving for all of his adult life. Additionally, as a Cancer survivor who has died clinically more than once he understands the road to recovery better than most.

You get your results and home session protocols to keep!

The results of every scan and optimization session are emailed directly to you. These graphic representations of the imbalances within your body can be printed or forwarded to your PCP or other healthcare care provider for cross-reference consultation.

You will also receive a detailed Vitals analysis (Blood, Toxicities, G.I., Nutritional, Physical, Chakra and Meridian – 28 pages), and your personal Inner Voice analysis with four customized emotion balancing tones.  (Note: In order do an Inner Voice scan from your computer, must have an built-in or plugged in microphone).

All scans are personally conducted by Ajahn, Dr. Anthony B. James, NAIC Director of Tribal Org. Clinical Services and Ordained NAIC Minister.  Home (remote) scanning is done online via screen sharing software (We prefer Zoom).

A Remote AO Scanner is preferred but not required for remote scans.  The device connects to your computer using one USB & one audio cable. The device functions as an amplifier.  It also includes a frequency conduction headset through which your specific quantum vibratory data is received and corrective frequencies are transmitted.

However, we have found that remote Analysis via video service is approximately 80% as accurate as a live, in-person scan, so perfectly acceptable as a substitute if your not able to travel.

How does the A.O. Scan Digital Frequency Analyzer Technology work?

Medical researchers say that the health of an organ, tissue, system or cell structure within the body can be identified by passing microcurrent frequencies through the body and measuring the current’s resistance.

Raymond Royal Rife

Royal Rife discovered that specific R.F. frequencies would only affect the microbes that resonated that exact frequency when broadcast through a plasma tube towards the body. And that when that frequency hit that microbe, it would destroy that specific microbe and have absolutely no effect on anything else.

Tesla

Nikola Tesla discovered that a specific set of frequencies could be broadcast through the air around us, the same way we broadcast cell phone calls, radio, and television signals today, and affect only the target it was intended for.

Albert Einstein

Albert Einstein is accredited with being one of the first to state that the future of medicine is the frequency and was one of the most brilliant people ever to be born. He is the creator of the theory of relativity, and his discoveries are still helpful today.

The Body is the Miracle!
As we unravel the design, form, and function of the human body cell by cell, tissue by tissue and organ by organ, the miracle of the complete human organism humbles us.

When nurtured with care, the body exhibits astonishing resilience for a long and healthy life. When neglected, the body breaks down and experiences degeneration. So, how do you know if you are nurturing or neglecting your body? What if you had access to revealing and relevant information about your body, an owner’s manual? What if technology would empower you with the knowledge to live your best life?

A.O. Scan Identifies specific frequencies in the human body and has compiled a database of more than 120,000 different frequencies. These frequencies are the same in every person. Every cell and organ in the body has its own distinctive Vibrational Frequency or Oscillation. When these oscillations are disrupted by injury, diet, stress, or emotion, it disrupts that biological function. Which, when not addressed, can bring about fatigue, depression, illness, disease, and even death. Over the past 20 years, over 120,000 Vibrational Frequencies have been isolated, identified, and cataloged. Knowing the optimum oscillation or frequencies of these cells and organs are, can assist in determining the root cause of an individual’s health status when these frequencies are compared to the individual scanned results.

Your Body is Electric
Science has discovered that every body cell, tissue, and organ is 98% energy that resonates with a unique frequency and vibration (Brett J. Earl M.D. Psc.D iMD).

Over the past 50 years, leading scientists from around the globe have cataloged thousands of Blueprint Frequencies frequencies that are the same in every healthy human being.

A.O. Scan Technology by Solex: Solex has compiled a database of over 120,000 unique Blueprint Frequencies and has developed a hand-held technology that allows you to compare your frequencies with our Blueprint Frequencies. We then display any variance to help you investigate further and take any corrective measures you deem necessary. Education is our objective. Information is your resource.

The A.O. Scan Technology is noninvasive and safe. V variances are generated using a numerical range from 1 to 9, with 5 representing the Blueprint value (homeostasis). Lower numbers 1 – 4 indicate underactive. Higher numbers 6 – 9 indicate overactive.

Responses are converted into an algorithm housed in our proprietary development space for conversion into our corresponding 3-D graphic avatar display that is as detailed as an M.R.I. display. Indeed, the brilliance is in the details. You can view every body organ, system, and tissue and read about its role in maintaining vitality and health.

Working Principles

The A.O. Scan device collects information in 3 ways:

1. Bio Resonance Recognition

This process transmits a specific signal from the brain through a Transducer Headset positioned in the front of each ear to collect the targeted information required. This enables the brain to identify which body part is being scanned. The scan is perfectly harmless and comfortable.

2. Bio Resonance Comparison

This process receives resonating frequencies, compares them to the corresponding Blueprint Frequencies, and determines any variance.

Then it compares the two frequencies, calculates how close they are to each other, and assigns a number from 1 to 9, with five being in perfect harmony and higher or lower than 5 indicating either stress or under activity.

This process involves sending a Sympathetic Vibration back into the body to encourage the organ, tissue, cell, nerve, artery, vein, etc., not within its homeostatic range, to move back towards the ideal frequency.

3. Sympathetic Vibratory Physics

This function transmits sympathetic vibration back into the body, encouraging each cell, tissue, organ, and system to move toward homeostasis.

4. Inner Voice- Quantum Voice Analysis

Nearly all physical disorders have an emotional component or cause. This process analyzes the harmonic spectrum of your voice, detects emotional suppressions or over-compensations, and then generates personalized balancing tones that can be listened to at your leisure.

5. Quantum Vitals Analysis

This technology scans and optimizes seven anatomical regions: Blood, G.I. functionality, Nutritional functionality, Physical Functionality, Toxicities, Chakras, and Meridians. It then generates a report that can be taken to your primary healthcare practitioner for consultation.

New Updated! June 12, 2022

The Bad News! So far as of today… the risk of death associated with Covid exposure is proportional to complicating , underlying chronic and or acute pre-existing issues. As I read through the numbers I see the vast majority on morbid outcomes occur for those individuals who ALREADY have severe health issues before becoming infected… Keep in mind the reason why so many are surprised or shocked when people die is because they didn’t consider the underlying, chronic diseases the patient was already dying or at risk of dying of a serious!

Read the whole article…But then try to find a way to wrap your head around the idea that the greatest health risk by far of Covid-19 to you and everyone you know is underlying unresolved heath issues and the chemical prescription drugs used to treat or control them!

Pre and Co-Morbidity! Coupled with deficient nutrition and rampant malnutrition, poor diet consisting of “Franken-foods” GMO’s, Artificial everything, anything, artificial sweeteners, out right malnutrition from common deficiencies of vitamin, minerals, Iodine, vitamin D, C etc. Lack of grounding, lack of sunshine, lack of fresh air, lack or insufficient exercise including load bearing and aerobic, chronic dehydration, insufficient deep sleep, Chronic constipation, Chronic Diarrhea, Gut Dysbiosis, Pre and Pro-biotics out of balance, ELF/ EMF Harmful energy exposure, Radiation from Chernobyl and Fukoshima… Don’t forget the many common Chemical Drugs/ Pharmaceutical that are known to shut down critical immune system functions…

Add in a real infectious vector Corona… Well you get the picture, right? It’s a perfect storm and the big numbers start to make sense!

Add in a real infectious vector Corona… It’s a perfect storm and the big numbers start to make sense!

The Good News! The solution? What we have been saying literally for the past 50 years. Concepts which still appear “novel” to the mainstream medical community and or industry. Conceptes which are labeled at best CAM i.e. complimentary and alternative medicine practices and at worst “Quackery”. Concepts such as Indigenous, traditional, Natural and Holistic Medicine and Health practices which reduce both the frequency, duration and morality of over 90% of the underlying chronic and acute issues which contribute to mortality (Death) including “Physician” caused death by malpractice and prescribing of harmful chemical and toxic drugs.

These CAM practices come by many names: Ayurveda, Traditional Thai Ayurveda- Medicine, Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) including Acupuncture, Chiropractic, Yunani Medicine, Hilot Medicine, Naturopathy and Nature Cure Medicine, Monastic Medicine and or Religious Therapeutics, Native American Medicine, Herbology, Aroma-therapy, Acupressure, Light therapy, PEMF (Pulsed Electro-magnetic Therapy), Homeopathy, Chelation Therapy, Nutrition Therapy, Health Coach etc. These are all recognized by The Who, provide care for billions of people to some degree or another in the world today. What these all share in common is that they provide relatively safe, predictable and functional medicinal outcomes towards reducing or eliminating underlying chronic and or acute health issues with little or NO risk of associated death. They share aims for example to KEEP YOU OUT OF THE Hospital, the emergency room.

Short Term, What Do I DO? Sixteen Helpful Suggestions from the Doctor!

What to do until or while your waiting for an appointment for counseling or treatment protocol from your chosen provider?

  1. In many states “social Distancing” guidelines and restrictions have recently been found to be unconstitutional and not based on science or sound medicine practice! Check your local and state guidelines to see if you live in a state where the Governor’s mandates have been found to be illegal and unscientific and or current status.
  2. Do NOT wear a mask in public… It is not scientifically valid and for many causes far more harm than good! (See Video: Why are We Wearing Mask?) If you must wear a mask… Clean and re-sterilize your mask regularly: Wash with hot soapy water, rinse, dry in regular over at 130degrees for at least 20 min. Spray with Colloidal Silver and let air dry. However! Do Not mistake this recommendation as a “Health Recommendation”! It is NOT! Wearing a Mask, any mask for a prolonged time causes Hypoxia and oxygen starvation which begins immediately to cause harm…Watch this video… Truth Bombs! Rant #2: Why Are We Wearing Mask?
  3. If you have a fever Do Not Go Out… Do Not Socialize and observe a voluntary stay at home. There are many reason other than Corona to have a fever, but for the care of those you love stay at home if you have a fever. This should be common sense.
  4. Wash Your Hands before and after each session… There are many guides to this now that everyone is an expert! If unsure if your doing it right… go to YouTube and search!
  5. Stay Healthy, drink plenty of water, eat right, get rid of the junk food, go outside, get plenty of sunshine, be happy , have some fun, enjoy your family and your pets!
  6. Take your supplements! Now is not the time to be slack! If you need to order or restock, do so now as delivery times could be slower for a while. Take those minerals, Iodine, Vitamen C, D, Zinc. Take your probiotics. Ask about our Ayurveda, Chinese medicine and Herbal Medicine support recommendation’s!
  7. Manage your diabetes by eating a mostly plant based diet. If necessary take a fortified meal supplement with digestive enzymes.
  8. Eat more Sprouts!
  9. Use an Infrared Sauna or Infrared Lamp, Bio-Mat etc.
  10. DO NOT take any drug as protection AGAINST infection! Remember ALL Chemical Drugs and or Vaccines have serious adverse effects! Don’t take any drug unless you know what those side effects, even death, are and are making an informed decision.
  11. Obtain a Nebulizer for both O2 therapy and or Colloidal Silver if need be.
  12. Work on your emotional, mental and or psychiatric health and stay balanced! Use your BET/ Tapping/ EFT/ Energy Psychology to stay healthy and happy on the inside.
  13. Let go of the minute by minute social diarrhrea and endless news updates… Once you know what your dealing with and where the real risk are coming from, then that is your point of focus! One more statistic is NOT going to assist you in either not becoming sick or dying of Corina!
  14. Spend time with attractive and positive people! Phone, video, yelling over the fence! However, you can do it. Socializing is also a necessary part of an over all health plan.
  15. Get real help for your pain issues! Back pain, neck pain, Knee pain… whatever it is there is a CAM Provider who can follow a safe protocol and treat your pain. Don’t suffer in silence because you don’t have to.
  16. Make that appointment for a personal consultation. Most good SomaVeda® Thai Yoga, Ayurveda, TCM, Chiropracters, Holistic Health Coaches and Nutritionist Counselors are really busy right now, so you likely will have to plan ahead.
  17. Schedule and start a SomaVeda® Thai Yoga Therapeutic Protocol with an NAIC Authorized Professionally Certified Professional to both reduce underlying health issues and build support for proper immune system function, to de-compress, de-stress and bring a joy for living back into your life!

In fact many hospitals and emergency rooms are turning sick people who are not severe and obviously infection (option) as it is. So where are these people, where are you and your family and or patient to turn to at this time? I say… same place recommended last year, and the year before… US! The holistic CAM provider is more your resource now than ever before. We are everywhere and in reality not hard to find. Seek out your provider and get cracking with some helpful counseling and therapy today. Don’t continue to procrastinate resolving the underlying health issues that yesterday might not have seemed so important but which today could contribute to taking your life!

Please note: I am not going to attempt to list all of the sources here! It’s overwhelming. There are literally thousands of scholarly and or scientific literature describing th morbidity and co-morbidity or these complication health issues.

Primary Immune disorder:

Usually inherited or caused by problems in genes of cells in the immune system, Characterized by infections that are severe, recurrent, and challenging to treat, More common than cystic fibrosis, affecting 1 in 1,200 people in the US:

AIDS/ HIV

Common variable immunodeficiency (CVID): People with CVID have decreased levels of antibodies (immunoglobulins) in the blood and are therefore more likely to get infections.

X-linked agammaglobulinemia (XLA): People with XLA—an inherited form of PI—have very few B cells, which are specialized white blood cells that help protect the body against  infection.

Immune globulin G (IgG) Subclass Deficiency: IgG is divided into 4 subclasses: IgG1, IgG2, IgG3, and IgG4. People are said to have an IgG subclass deficiency when they lack or have very  low levels of 1 or more IgG subclasses, but their total IgG levels are normal.

Hyper-IgM (HIGM) Syndrome: People with HIGM syndrome have an excess of IgM and reduced levels of other immunoglobulins, including IgG and immune globulin A (IgA).

Selective IgA Deficiency: One of the most common types of PI in Caucasians, selective IgA deficiency, often goes undiagnosed in some people because they are never  sick enough to be seen by a doctor. Others, however, may develop a variety of challenges that need medical attention.

Severe combined immunodeficiency (SCID): SCID, a serious form of PI, is a rare syndrome with multiple genetic causes.

Wiskott-Aldrich Syndrome: Wiskott-Aldrich syndrome is a PI disease that affects both the T and B lymphocytes.

DiGeorge Syndrome: DiGeorge syndrome is a PI disease caused by abnormal formation of certain tissues during fetal development. The defect may affect the thymus  gland and impair production of T lymphocytes.

Ataxia-telangiectasia (A-T): A-T is a PI disease that affects a number of organs.

Pharmaceutical Drug  Issues:

A) Drugs that cause side effects that can exacerbate mortality…

B) Drugs that either are known to cause or to increase risk of induced Pulmonary Disease:

C) Types of lung problems or diseases that may be caused by medicines include, but are not limited to:

          Drug-induced interstitial lung disease

Symptoms of Drug-induced interstitial lung disease: dry cough and shortness of breath due to interstitial lung disease, an imaging study may be ordered. A “CT” scan of the chest would show changes (reticular or ground-glass opacities). Pulmonary function tests may also be ordered by your physician, which can show moderate-to-severe decreases in carbon monoxide diffusion capacity.

Sound familiar?

  • Allergic reactions — asthma, hypersensitivity pneumonitis, or eosinophilic pneumonia
  • Bleeding into the lung air sacs, called alveoli (alveolar hemorrhage)
  • Swelling and inflamed tissue in the main passages that carry air to the lungs (bronchitis)
  • Damage to lung tissue (interstitial fibrosis)
  • Drugs that cause the immune system to mistakenly attack and destroy healthy body tissue, such as drug-induced lupus erythematosus
  • Granulomatous lung disease — a type of inflammation in the lungs
  • Inflammation of the lung air sacs (pneumonitis or infiltration)
  • Lung vasculitis (inflammation of lung blood vessels)
  • Lymph node swelling
  • Swelling and irritation (inflammation) of the chest area between the lungs (mediastinitis)
  • Abnormal buildup of fluid in the lungs (pulmonary edema)
  • Buildup of fluid between the layers of tissue that line the lungs and chest cavity (pleural effusion)

Many medicines and substances are known to cause lung disease in some people. These include:

  • Antibiotics, such as nitrofurantoin and sulfa drugs
  • Heart medicines, such as amiodarone
  • Chemotherapy drugs such as bleomycin, cyclophosphamide, and methotrexate
  • Street drugs

According to Merk…

Drug-induced pulmonary disease is not a single disorder, but rather a common clinical problem in which a patient without previous pulmonary disease develops respiratory symptoms, chest x-ray changes, deterioration of pulmonary function, histologic changes, or several of these findings in association with drug therapy. Over 150 drugs or categories of drugs have been reported to cause pulmonary disease; the mechanism is rarely known, but many drugs are thought to provoke a hypersensitivity response. Some drugs (eg, nitrofurantoin) can cause different injury patterns in different patients.

Depending on the drug, drug-induced syndromes can cause interstitial fibrosis, organizing pneumonia, asthma, noncardiogenic pulmonary edema, pleural effusionspulmonary eosinophiliapulmonary hemorrhage, or veno-occlusive disease (see Table: Substances With Toxic Pulmonary Effects).

List of Drugs that cause Lung and Heart Injury

Amiodarone is the most common heart drug that causes pulmonary abnormalities. Used for the treatment of atrial fibrillation, pulmonary toxicity affects as many as 6% of individuals on amiodarone. Among these cases, fatality rates range from 10-20%. Eek. A safer, similar medication used for atrial fib is Multaq (dronedarone) which is more expensive than amiodarone but may be a better first choice given the lower risk of lung injury.

Nitrofurantoin (Macrobid) is a commonly prescribed antibiotic used to treat urinary tract infections. Nitrofurantoin has been linked to both acute and chronic lung injury, believed to be a hypersensitivity reaction from the drug.

Methotrexate (Rheumatrex) is used for the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis and psoriasis as well as other serious skin conditions and carries a known risk of acute interstitial pneumonia.

Biologic agents. Cetuximab (Erbitux), bevacizumab (Avastin), trastuzumab (Herceptin) and alemtuzumab (Lemtrada) are just a few of many in this newer class of medications that have been reported to cause drug induced interstitial lung disease. Again, these are medications used for serious illnesses like cancer and accepting the rare risk of interstitial lung disease may be “worth” it as you will be closely monitored.

Seizure medications. Phenytoin (Dilantin) and carbamazepine (Tegretol)—which is also used to treat pain from trigeminal neuralgia or shingles—are both known to cause drug-induced acute interstitial pneumonitis.

Aspirin and other NSAIDS (ibuprofennaproxen) may cause acute pulmonary hypersensitivity reactions which may occur within the first week of treatment—or as late as three years after first exposure.

Sulfamethoxazole/trimethoprim (Bactrim) is a sulfonamide-containing antibiotic used for bacterial infections. It is a rare cause of drug-induced interstitial lung disease.

Hydralazine is used for the treatment of high blood pressure and heart failure, and cases of nonspecific interstitial pneumonias have been reported.

Cholesterol medications aka “Statins.” This is tricky because while drug-induced interstitial lung disease has been reported with most statins including pravastatin (Pravachol), simvastatin (Zocor), and atorvastatin (Lipitor), they have also been shown in studies to be associated with lower mortality in people with interstitial lung disease and pulmonary fibrosis.

  • basiliximab (Simulect)
  • daclizumab (Zinbryta)

PLEASE NOTE: The above is NOT comprehensive. A list of possible drugs causing and or exacerbating would easily run into the thousands of possible suspects. I personally interviewed a past VP Pharmacology of CVS Pharmacy, who told me emphatically it is scientifically and procedurally impossible to calculate the side effects, adverse reactions and co-morbidity of three or more drug simultaneously.

Considering that the average person in the US (48.4%) takes at least One drug per month more than 36.6% of person in the US take between 3 and 5 prescription chemical drugs per month (CDC: https://www.cdc.gov/nchs/fastats/drug-use-therapeutic.htm) it doesn’t take a science degree to see that 100% of all of these are likely to have one or more adverse effects and 36.6 % will likely have severe and complicated, un predictable list of adverse effects just from the drugs alone.

A) Profiles for prescription drugs… https://hpi.georgetown.edu/rxdrugs/#

Let’s not forget the OTC Meds, NSAIDS (Non Steroidal Anti-inflammatory Drugs) etc. like the recently banned “Zantac” which also have a huge list of adverse effects including death.

Add GMO’s and Artificial sweeteners no to this growing list of factors which can cause or exacerbate co-morbity with … well… anything! Including with Covid.

List of side effects/ adverse effects of Artificial Sweeteners:

List of side effects, adverse effects of Artificial Sweeteners:

Studies have suggested an association between the use of non-nutritive sweeteners and health outcomes (such as body weight, diabetes, cancer, and oral health)… See earlier in this article references for these specific issues relating to co-morbidity!

According to Dr. Osborne: “Current research is limited on the beneficial effects and the long-term health risks associated with the ingestion of artificial sweeteners. However, cyclamate (an early artificial sweetener), was banned by the FDA in 1970 due to carcinogenic risks in experimental animals. With this ban, the artificial sweetener market took a hit. Consumers were left scared knowing there could be a cancer risk associated with ingestion of artificial sweeteners. Shortly after, manufacturers replaced one toxic artificial sweetener with new equally toxic sweetener. Many consumers report headaches, dizziness, rashes, bloating, nausea, diarrhea, and digestive problems after ingesting artificial sweeteners. These side effects could build up over time and cause serious long term diseases with regular consumption of these processed sugars.

Currently, the great debate is between the FDA and scientists. In a study determining the effects of saccharin, sucralose and aspartame consumption in both mice and humans, the ingestion of artificial sweeteners altered microbial metabolic pathways6. Studies indicated glucose intolerance was elevated due to changes in gut microbiota. Gut health has to be optimal in order to maintain a healthy immune system and normal metabolic functions in our body.  Such metabolic functions include maintaining normal blood pressure, blood glucose, and cholesterol levels. More studies need to be conducted, but scientists believe that there is also a relationship between sweeteners and certain cancers, chronic fatigue syndrome, Parkinson’s disease, Alzheimer’s disease, multiple sclerosis, autism, and systemic lupus.

In numerous studies observing weight loss with the ingestion of artificial sweeteners, there is not enough proof that consumption is beneficial in weight management2. Studies are able to show short-term weight loss, but lack any long term weight loss results. However, consumers are still consuming artificial sweeteners in order to reduce their caloric intake with the intent of weight loss based on physician’s recommendations.

Artificial Sweeteners can also develop into an addiction. These processed sugars are 200-13,000 times sweeter than regular sugar5. Over time, the consumption of these artificial sweeteners can alter taste buds and result in a constant craving for foods that are overly sweet. More nutritious foods such as fruits and vegetables become less palatable, so less nutritious sugar-free substitutes and carbohydrates are consumed instead. Consequently, risks for nutrient deficiencies and weight gain increase.”

SomaVeda® Ayurveda Health Coaching Counseling

By Ajahn, Dr. Anthony B. James, Dean of the SomaVeda College of Natural Medicine and College of Ayurveda Medicine

Ayurveda teaching from ajahn Dr. Anthony B. James

UPDATED March 3, 2021

Hi everyone and good day! Yes, almost everyone (those paying attention) is concerned with the Covid-19 pandemic now consuming the air waves of every news channel! And rightly so!  How is this all going to pan out? For most it is a bit uncertain in the short term. For the long, well, it’s going to work out! How do I know this? It always has and always does! This is not the first pandemic of epic proportions and risk to all nor will it be the last.

When we look at the functional, indigenous traditional medicine histories of the past we know that Ayurveda, Traditional Chinese Medicine and Native American Medicine as well as Homeopathy and Nature Cure (i.e. Traditional Naturopathy), especially as found in the Christian Monastic Medicine traditions of the Hospitaller’s (Founder of the Modern “Hospital” concept and “Nursing” weathered in some cases MANY pandemics.

The knowledge and understanding of the basic principles of surviving epidemics has not changed, not been lost just because the “times” have changed. Yes, we do have modern medicine and “medical respirators”, although we have a shortage of individuals who know how to operate these high tech life saving devices.

Disclaimer: This is a theoretical article and opinion about how far can Ayurveda (Ayurveda of Thailand and Thai Yoga i.e. Traditional Thai Massage) be useful in preventing, reducing and/ or treating the symptoms, pre and or co-morbities of “SARS-2  Covid-19”. We are not claiming to prevent or to cure it. Do not follow any advice given in the article (or any part of our website) without consulting your doctor. We have not cured any patients of Corona virus with the treatments discussed below, neither do we claim that these treatment ideas cure it or prevent. Consider it as a mere conceptual article and our learned opinion. However, we have reports of many people no longer suffering, sick or dying who are following these protocols!

SomaVeda® Thai Yoga and Ayurveda Solutions for Corona Issues

Please note the following recommendations are in addition to the really good overall advise and NAIC Monastic Medical Recommendation’s guidelines as well as legal edicts as per governmental authorities. All health and medical recommendation’s on an individual level must follow your personal physicians recommendations.

So… best bet for most people is to:

A) Reduce your exposure! From a scientifically validated point of view, the single most valuable methodology to prevent the contact and spread of contagious disease is to simply keep your hands clean! Wash your hands regularly with ordinary soap and warm water for 20 to 30 seconds. Experts and scientist agree that mask of any kind in the general population do not have any benefit is reducing the spread of a pathogenic virus. A typical mask has open pores between 5 and 10 microns at best. Cloth mask or face coverings might have opening over 100 microns. A typical virus particle is as small as 2 microns. Using a mask to prevent exposure to a virus is like trying to stop moskitoes with a chain link fence!

Close social interaction is required for health and well being as well as resistance to illness and disease. All illnesses and diseases. . Our entire lives are built on and based on socialization and social interaction… It is simply not possible for the greater population to sequester and isolate. Income level, access to deliveries… especially a condition for rural and or remote areas! No “Grub Hub” or “Uber Eats” in these areas. Maybe your a “Prepper” maybe not. But all of us need to be somewhat on the “prepper” train right now  and for some unforeseeable future. No matter what your up to reduce your social activities to those activities which support health and self sufficiency as best you can. Many “essential” infrastructure persons from health providers to first responder’s will have the same issues as most of us while being required to get out there in high risk environments… no choice. My advise to these persons is do what you can aside from your job responsibilities to take care of your self and your family! You now have multiple jobs in that you have a public responsibility and still need to take care of your own households.

  1. Avoid isolation: Now that we know that social distancing has little or no measurable effect on the spread of the “Cervesa Bug”. We have to consider that our health can suffer if we isolate ourselves completely. Social isolation, Social Distancing disrupts the functioning of the vagus nerve—the brain-gut connection that regulates our immune system and our response to stress. Try to maintain a sense of social connectedness by engaging in small and safe social gatherings, eating meals with your family or a few friends, and avoiding over-reliance on electronic socialization. Above all, stay calm and open hearted while observing these commonsense precautions which might be prudent for any “Flu or Flu type -Bug”:

    • Avoid close contact with elderly people who are sick (High Risk for Pre and or co-morbidities). (i.e. 83yr+, Medically Obese, Severe Diabetes, Severe Heart Disease, Cancer in Hospice or Nursing Home!)

    • Wash your hands frequently.

    • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth.

    • Stay home when you are sick.

    • Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue; then throw the tissue in the trash.

    • Keep bundled up and warm during cold weather.

B) Be healthy… If your not? Ask yourself “Why am I not healthy?” if the answer is anything that has been in your power and means to correct… get on it! Every health expert including myself will tell you that your baseline of health and wellness will be a contributing factor in both your personal susceptibility and if and when exposed (and you will be), you experience as virulence, degree of illness and risk of death. We here at the SomaVeda College of Natural Medicine and Thai Yoga Center have been teaching all of these concepts for years! Those of you who are graduates from our programs and especially my classes have heard me tirelessly and repetitively tell to to get your personal health in order.

Do the medicine you have been taught. Use the resources you have been given to get healthy i.e. “Physician, Heal Thy Self” as both a pre-condition and as a formal condition towards healing others. Those of you who have followed the teachings are now in excellent shape to deal with the current crises… those of you who followed lackadaisically or didn’t think it was important enough to double down and master the ancient and modern medicine teaching given are now in the same boat as everyone else, those who did not have education, those who don’t have a clue!

C) Practice Yoga with others! For thousands of years Yoga practice has been the core, the foundation of individual and personal health. That has not changed! Certainly there are many Yoga Teachers and Yoga schools right now that would be happy to see you supporting your health by showing up to live classes. There is no substitute for live classes with a live teacher. Everyone needs those “hands on” corrections and no way to get them on ZOOM! Also, consider MA or Martial Arts. All MA have healing benefits. Of course I am prejudiced and prefer Thai (Krabi-Krabong, Muay Thai, Muay Boran), Filipino (Kali, Arnis, Pekiti Tersia) as well as Chinese styles such as Wing Chun Gung Fu, Tai Chi and or Jeet Kune Do (Lee Jun Fan- Bruce Lee Fighting Method)… however any MA with a vigorous practice that gets the heart going, is engaging and or strengthening or toning is perfect.  Find a brave teacher near you and bravely go check them out.

You may not like this! I want to say that those graduates  and or former students who exclusively have chosen to re-define our SomaVeda Indigenous Traditional Medicine® Thai Yoga as exclusively “Bodywork” and or “Massage” are just now wishing you had paid more attention to the parts of the program dealing with immune system, nutrition, supplementation, detoxification and counseling… You know who you are! However, all is forgiven. Break out your notebooks, text and course materials and dig deep into your notes for solutions you can do right now and which you can use as a basis for counseling! Now is the time to build and redirect into the counseling services your qualified and authorized to do which do not require physical contact and or even being in the same room! You can counsel by phone appointment, “Skype”, FB Live, “Insta” Live, Twitter or whatever format works best for your communications with your clients.

For example, it is proven clinically and scientifically that improving your emotional/ mental health has an immediate and direct impact of your immune system function and overall health and well being. We have an amazing technology called B.E.T./ EFT and or “Energy Psychology” which EVERY SomaVeda® Thai Yoga Certified Practitioner at EVERY practice level is required to learn and know! Now is the time to put that training and secondary certification/ scope of practice to use. Who does not need professional counseling on their negative and old unresolved negative emotional issues, fears, phobia, anxiety issues right now? Those therapist who are paying attention are scheduling paid professional consultation by phone and on-line. If your not… ask your self “Why not?”

A big part of what it means to be able to help bring healing to others is to “Work on Your Self”. Use the “Tapping” to build your own stability and remove confusion and irrational fear to better enable your own clarity to make better decisions during difficult times. Yes physical distance can be helpful… however, do not isolate yourself from your own healing practices and certainly do not be one of those “Healers” who in a crises disappears or is other wise “Not Available”. If your a trained healer, minister or Practitioner Therapist now is the time to prove your metal. Put up or shut up. Help or admit defeat to your lack of discipline and either immediately start supporting those who can do the work or get out of the way. If these words seem strong or critical, then so be it. This current time and pandemic is EXACTLY what we have been training for. This is why true healers, practicing authentic, genuine medicine have been training for. I hope with all my heart that you, my current and former students choose to step up and not out!

I want to recommend for the “Self Work” part of the equation right now my book “Angels Speak, The Art and Work of Crafting Consciousness“. Take some of the “Free Time” you now have because you may not be able to “rub on people” for money and continue to educate yourself on how to work on yourself in such a way as to reconnect to being able to contribute in difficult times.

IMPORTANT ALERT: If you are, and or define your professional livelihood as a “Massage” person (legal definition as someone who rubs on the public for money… Not my definition this is how Massage profession is defined by state laws!) my heart goes out to you as the massage industry is experiencing a huge crash which is likely to continue for the future. Non-medical, non-essential touching for esthetics, relaxation and or “therapy” may even be banned by the government in the near future.

I have a solution for you… Learn SomaVeda® Thai Yoga, Ayurveda and Indigenous Traditional Natural Medicine. Yes we are the masters of Thai Traditional Physical Therapy (Thai Yoga Massage) however, in our traditional based system we teach “ALL” of the Ayurveda, Yoga Therapy and Indigenous Protocols which do NOT Require touching at all! If all you know or can do is rub of people then now is the time to re-direct!

Have confidence! SomaVeda® Thai Yoga Therapeutic Day Protocol works! It directly and immediately builds and improves all immune system quanta and measurable factors including those for fighting infections and in resisting all contagious issues. Not only is this a scientific fact, supported by an ever increasing body of science and scientific investigation, research trials, but, we have a mutli-decade of anecdotal history and evidence supporting the many benefits of the work we have been given.

Health officials recommend relying on good judgment and “social distancing” to keep ourselves safe. Yet, even as we are forced, sometimes without our consent, limit our social interactions, it’s important to remember that we are all in this together. Socially together is required for all societies to function! This realization is essential to our well-being. Throughout the long history of humankind (and of the animal kingdom, too) those who learned to collaborate and intelligently adapt have prevailed.

Ayurveda provides us with a host of ways to ramp up our immune system. Here are a few tips that may not be the first you would think of! Take a look, and please reach out to me if you have any questions.

  1. Support your Agni: Digestive Fire! Our digestive system is the root of good health. Help keep it in good working order with plenty of whole grains and fresh fruits and vegetables. Eat three nourishing meals a day. Breakfast should be warm and easy to digest, lunch should be your largest meal of the day, and dinner should consist of a light, warm, and easily assimilated dish, such as a soup, or lightly steamed veggies and rice. Stay away from processed foods, sugars, and heavy, oily foods. Dairy foods can also be problematic due to their mucus-forming properties.

  2. Consume a small amount of Trikatu daily before lunch: Trikatu is a Sanskrit word meaning “three spices” or “three peppers.” Trikatu is an Ayurvedic blend of equal parts of the fruits of black pepper (Piper nigrum), long pepper (Piper longum), and the rhizomes of ginger (Zingiber officinale). Its many benefits include the following:

  • Helps to clear excess kapha or mucus from the body
  • Supports healthy digestive, circulatory, and respiratory functioning
  • Helps rekindle agni (digestive fire)
  • Boosts metabolism
  • Scrapes away excess fat tissue (helpful for weight management)
  • Helps remove impurities and toxins (ama) from the body
  • Buy herbs here.

SCNM- Thai Yoga Center Coronavirius Update

Corona Virus Information Chart

SCNM- Thai Yoga Center Coronavirius May Update for Thai Yoga Center Program Participants!

You’ve likely heard about the Coronavirus (officially called “2019-Novel Coronavirus” or “COVID-19”) in the news. While the immediate health risk remains low to Americans and there isn’t a vaccine yet, there are still ways that you can help prevent the spread of this virus.

With the recent increased attention to the COVID-19 (Coronavirus) in both local and national media, we wanted to reach out with information, and also request to PLEASE contact us to reschedule your certification program or retreat, if you are sick or feeling under the weather. PLEASE wait until you have made a full recovery.

Most airlines are allowing rescheduling flights during this season with little or no penalty. If your not clear as to whether you should postpone your class, call Dr. James directly at (706) 358-8646.

There are only three cases of COVID-19 (Coronavirus) in Florida at this time in the Tampa Bay Area, Florida is still considered a low risk, and there is no cause for alarm; however, we are encouraging all our guests and staff members to be proactive. Especially since we are having guests from all over the country traveling through airports. For the most up-to-date information on the Coronavirus, we encourage you to visit http://www.floridahealth.gov/diseases-and-conditions/COVID-19/

With it also being flu and cold season, our staff is already been instructed on best practices for preventing transmission of respiratory and other illness, and we would like to share this important information with you:

To prevent the spread of this illness or other illnesses, including the flu:

  • Avoid close contact with others who are sick;
  • Stay home when your sick
  • Cover nose and mouth with a tissue when cough or sneeze
  • Wash your hands often with soap and water (thoroughly for 20 seconds). If soap and water are not available, use hand sanitizer (60% alcohol)
  • Avoid touching eyes, nose, and mouth as germs are spread this way
  • Clean and disinfect surfaces and objects that may be contaminated with germs
  • Avoid sharing food and drinks with others.
  • See your doctor if you think you’re ill (symptoms, fever, cough especially if your in a high risk area).

Please remember, everyone with flu like symptoms or a fever should stay home.
As always, we look forward to serving the needs of our students and participants and will keep you informed of any developments.
